Outside the Box

This workshop is a one-stop-shop for educators seeking to promote gender equity in their classrooms and beyond. Drawing on Piaget’s constructivist theory, we’ll consider how we are socialised to view gender, and we’ll delve into the science that tells us just how different (or not!) girls and boys really are. We’ll consider how we can best meet the needs of all children and move beyond stereotypes, allowing kids to explore their whole selves and to reach their full potential.

Topics covered include:

  • Gender equity vs gender equality

  • Constructivist theory & gender schemata explained

  • Socialisation & stereotypes: what’s the harm?

  • Pink brain, blue brain - What does the science say?

  • Why language matters

  • Working with parents for the best outcomes

This workshop is perfect for anyone who wants to find out more about gender stereotypes, for those who are interested in creating a level playing field for children of all genders.
